At Kinross, outstanding corporate citizenship is a core value. These 10 principles define what “doing the right thing” means to us and are central to how we conduct our business.

Principle 8: We seek to maximize employment, business and economic opportunities for local communities from our existing operations and new projects.

Building Skills and Capacity

We believe strongly that profitability and corporate responsibility go hand-in-hand. The more we thrive as a successful business, the more value we will create for society, contributing to building infrastructure and economic capacity, and undertaking other initiatives with a positive social and economic impact. Where feasible, we tender contracts to local and regionally-based businesses to foster sustainable local economic activity and development. We have policies and practices at our operations that encourage local hiring. We support training and educational initiatives, scholarships and apprenticeship programs, focused on helping youth thrive, secure work and income locally, and build economic capacity.
